MY STORY

I am Nina, originally from the North East of England living in the French Alps. A Yoga Alliance 200hour qualified Yoga Teacher, lucky enough to be guiding regular weekly classes in the Porte du Soleil ski area since 2015.

Being naturally introspective and always fasciated by the the spiritual East, Yoga has been a sacred and essential part of my daily routine for over 20 years. The physical benefits of my regular practice are many, but the emotional benefits are life changing.

Through Yoga I have uncovered a calmer, kinder, more insightful persona. I am less anxious, less reactive. Through bringing together body and mind with breath and movement, my personal practice has heightened my awareness of self, how the ego mind is separate from our true self.

In addition to my 200hours yoga teacher training I have studied 150hours to be awarded Distinction in a Diploma of Reflexology and am currently adding a further 150hours of study for a Diploma in Aromatherapy, 30hours Yoga Nidra and am also studying to become aligned to practice Reiki.

About Everyday Zen

B R E A T H E & S U R R E N D E R

Adhering to Patanjali's 8 Limbs of Yoga the goal is to reconnect the mind and soul back to the physical body through self-reflection, mantras, and spiritual practices. The physical postures are just one aspect of yoga. During class we use mindfulness, kindness and patience in our approach to ensure we do no harm during our practice, and I encourage you to take feelings of thoughtfulness into your day. Through the use of breathing techniques, meditiation practices, chakra alignment, prana flow, mantras, music, aromatherapy, my goal is to help you quiet the mind and promote wellbeing, feelings of inner peace, tranquility and calm.

I practice both Vinyasa, a moving meditation or consciousness in motion, and Yin, a slow practice with fewer poses and more time in each.

“Vinyasa” is derived from the Sanskrit term nyasa, which means “to place,” and vi, “in a special way” incorporating a flowing sequence of specific asanas coordinated with the movements of the breath.

Firstly, in using the Vinyasa style I can lead you through a stronger more dynamic flow which promotes blood flow, raises heart rate, build heat and fire within, stimulates the lymphatic system to cleanse and detoxify. These more dynamic, stronger flows are designed to tone the entire body and build core strength, develop stamina and promote balance. Harnessing the beauty of the breath to take power and energy from the earth upwards.

Secondly, within Yin we take a softer, more mellow approach.  With calming flows to deepen awareness of the self and cultivate the connection between body and mind, nourishing the body, slowing everything down and improving joint health, flexibility and inner calm.

Both styles help to open energy (prana) channels throughout the body, as well as releasing physical and emotional tension, complimenting each other or your regular physical exercise.

All classes are open to every body, whether you choose a mellow or a dynamic flow, modifications can be made in each and every pose.

Classes always start and close with a short meditation, gentle neck and shoulder stretches and finish with a guided relaxation in Savasana and I try to find a way to incorporate essential oils, aromatherapy and reflexology if I can.
